Originally conceived as a dance film, “If I Were You” is a poignant narrative that delves into the complexities of being in a relationship: with others as well as with oneself. The work began as an exploration of using settings to visually represent individual limitations. The precipice in the film invokes a sense of boundary, unfolding on an Eric Lloyd Wright Property in Malibu while featuring an original score by Sami Freeman.
The central conflict revolves around the fear of pushing one’s limits and the uncertainty of what lies beyond. Moments of well-intended support evolve into disruption and destruction, echoing the nuances of navigating boundaries within a relationship. The dance unfolds with a palpable sense of falling into known patterns, coupled with a yearning to break free from the cycle.
