The work is a scene from the full-length work “Raining Men,” which explores definitions of masculinity and heroism while attempting to challenge the boundaries of normative gender.
The duet “Come and breathe with me for a moment” is a moment in the work in which a window opens for intimate dialogue, questioning the meaning of true intimacy. How fragile is closeness? Is it what we call love, passion, honest conversation, in-depth knowledge? The duet proposes intimacy as shared breathing, a moment of close connection that encompasses the various colors of intimacy. The encounter of the two bodies through shared breathing gives the term intimacy a voice – a human, abstract, and sensory soundtrack providing closeness, love, and passion, and connects the two bodies that become a unified musical instrument with two lung cavities and one sound.
