Walking Between Stones

WEI-YAO CHIU

Taiwan

When I arrive in an unfamiliar city, the first thing I notice is the ground beneath my feet.

I come from the Bunun community in Taiwan. Growing up in the mountains, walking across rivers, forest trails, and hunting paths was simply part of everyday life. Those paths quietly shaped my body and continue to influence the way I create movement today.

For this work, I don’t want to begin with choreography. I want to begin with walking.
To observe, to listen, to get lost, and to become familiar with the place through my body. To see what happens when a body encounters a city built of stone.
