The Bath Murder Case

Yi-Sian You & Mo Ci-Siang

Taiwan

A bathtub sits on stage like a piece of evidence.

The Bathroom Murder Case is a surreal duet that reimagines the logic of detective fiction through the body. Inside a confined bathroom setting, two performers engage in a shifting psychological game where intimacy, suspicion, and violence blur. Blending contemporary partnering, wrestling, and physical theatre, the choreography treats movement as raw behaviour—where struggles turn into embraces, and physical collisions reveal hidden desires.

Developed since August 2024 through various evolving versions, the work moves between suspense and dark humor. As clues contradict each other, reality and imagination blur. Audiences become both witnesses and detectives in this strange investigation, where the deeper the search goes, the more uncertain the truth becomes.

Both independent Taiwanese choreographers and TNUA graduate students, You Yi-Sian and Mo Chi-Hsiang, have been collaborating since 2024 to develop this work. You investigates human perception and philosophy, while Mo uses a raw physical vocabulary to unearth psychological truths. Discovering a deep alignment in their artistic visions, they have continued their partnership to this day. Together, they constantly evolve different versions of the piece and create new works, expanding their physical and somatic research. They also actively engage with the global dance community, continuing to exchange ideas and showcase their collaborative practice on international platforms and art festivals.
