Apathic, listless, nervous – but simultaneously her look reveals a desperate need for the love and empathy that she never received. She is both the victim and the executioner. This is the story of a renowned female character from Italian literature named Monaca di Monza – a rebel nun that denied the religious life that was destined for her by her father and brother. Guided by the powerful classical music of Ravel, Tchaikovsky, and Mahler, the Nuncracker brings to the stage an ironic point of view about the power and madness of an amazing woman, ready to change her life whilst going against everyone around her.
“Two really black eyes, sometimes stared into people’s faces, with a proud exploring look; they were asking for affection, correspondence, pity” (I promessi Sposi, Alessandro Manzoni, 1821)
