Considering the climate crisis and the changes occurring on earth and among its inhabitants, I have recently been asking myself which creature will be the one to outlive us all. That is how I discovered the most fascinating creature, called the water bear – or “Tardigrade” by its scientific name; a small animal that made its way into my heart. Water bears are the most adaptable animals. Their body length is around one millimeter. They are known, among other things, for their ability to withstand severely dry conditions, and can survive in extreme environments. They are the only known animal that can endure in the void of space, meaning that they can withstand low atmospheric pressure. It seems that the last animal to survive on the face of the earth will be the water bear.
