“Olorun” is a term from the Yoruba culture which refers to the supreme deity in the Yoruba pantheon. Olorun is believed to be the creator of the universe and is considered to be all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-present. In Yoruba mythology, Olorun is often associated with the sun and is depicted as a benevolent deity who governs the forces of nature, fertility, and destiny. “Olorun” was created by Luiza Braz Batista out of the need to return to the origin, to reconnect to ones own roots. After moving to Germany, Batista urged to do a work in which it would be possible to express the Brazilian background and energy they grew up with. “Olorun” was premiered in 2011 in Essen, and since then has been performed in various festivals worldwide.
